This is an example of how Balance-Based Torso-Weighting can affect mobility in a Timed Up and Go test. Therapists will often use this test as a measure to determine if the patient is improving with treatment. Notice Mary can stand and turn with much more ease. She is weighted with 1.75 pounds for her balance loss.

It appears the patient is trying to go as fast as she can. I was under the impression that the TUG was done in normal speed.

Your are correct the TUG is often done at normal gait speed. I like to see what they look like walking a quikly as they feel comfortable and safe. This seems to give me their best effort. How do you think we get best effort?
