Restorative Versus Compensatroy Therapy

Posted on February 15, 2011. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , |

I just returned from the the APTA Combined Section Meeting in New Orleans. An interesting discussion was what therpaists should do. Restorative therapy;that which tries to restore normal coordinated movement but takes a long time or Compensatory therapy; that which provides improved function any way the patient can do it. Obvously compensatory therapy is cheaper and takes less time than restorative therapy. When I look at Balance Based Torso-Weighting I think I am providing a compensatory strategy which may be providing restorative input improving coodinated control. Please look at Erica’s video and tell me what you think I am doing.
